I am a clinical psychologist and my practice is Waxhaw Anxiety Care.  I work with adults and adolescents, ages 16 years and older and provide cognitive-behavioral therapy services for a broad range of anxiety and stress related problems. I specialize, also, in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and have a particular passion for helping adults and adolescents with health anxiety and harm OCD

  • Do you feel blocked from reaching your goals by anxiety or panic?
  • Do you suffer repetitive negative thoughts?... persistent worries about the future…or nagging feelings of guilt about the past?
  • Does your stress drive you to engage in behaviors that you know to be counterproductive or even self-defeating?
  • Do you experience problems with sleep, travel, or socializing?

As a psychologist with nearly 30 years of experience, I understand the importance of confronting fears instead of trying to go around them and learning effective coping strategies for dealing with the worries, negative thoughts, and compulsive habits that may be holding you back.  I believe that, once you understand the pattern of your own anxiety problem, you can learn effective steps in therapy to reduce your physical and emotional distress, increase your coping, and reverse the avoidance that may be limiting your functioning and your enjoyment of life.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is typically a brief form of treatment that is solution focused and very effective in resolving anxiety problems. Approaching therapy from this perspective, I provide my clients with a therapeutic environment that is highly interactive and collaborative.  I offer lots of feedback, support, and direction to enable my clients to overcome the fears that are blocking them and achieve their personal goals.  In addition to offering specialized ERP services for OCD, I enjoy helping individuals with panic disorder, work or personal stress, chronic worries, and specific fears about many aspects of daily life including driving, airline travel, and socializing.  I also provide CBT for depression as low mood and feelings of helplessness often occur as secondary symptoms of anxiety problems.

I received my Ph.D. at Stony Brook University on Long Island and have dedicated my career to helping clients overcome a variety of individual, family, work, and social challenges.  Before, relocating to Waxhaw, I served as clinical director of LI Anxiety Care in Setauket, NY where I delivered treatment services to children, teens, and adults and trained other professionals to provide effective cognitive-behavioral therapy, as well.

I’m happy to be a new resident right here in Waxhaw and am excited to be continuing my career as a psychologist in North Carolina!  I believe that therapy should be readily accessible to people when they need it and recognize that each of us, no matter the outside image we project, will probably need this type of help for ourselves or for a family member at some point in our lives.
